After the success of the Newton Abbot rally and running day, we closed the centenary year with a modest event set in the heartland of Devon General territory.
Three vehicles attended: AEC Regent V VDV 817 provided by the Devon General Omnibus Trust, Leyland Atlantean 872 ATA provided by Stagecoach South West and Sea Dog Leyland Atlantean MSJ 499 (formerly 925 GTA) provided by Jonathan Hawkins. The day was based around the bus stops near the former Pavilion Theatre and the route involved a simple circuit along the sea front, turning at the Grand Hotel, and a return via the Strand.
Some 856 passenger journeys were recorded during the day and, by all accounts, many fond memories we re-kindled. We are grateful, as ever, to the vehicle owners and all who helped make the event a success.
Sound Communities recorded a number of interviews at the event as part of their ‘Hear and Now’ project, asking participants about their recollections of Devon General. Your can hear the interviews here, starting with our Events Officer Malcolm Luty.
